it does not make you selfish. you must take care of your needs first and foremost. your friend is not able to give you the relationship you most crave, so you must cut all ties with him for now until you get over him. Yes, to the chemistry inside of you and your brain, it thinks that he was indeed your bf because you two spent so much time together in close proximity. It’s like breaking up with a guy you know isnt going to give you the type of relationship you want that is comfortable and reciprocal. So “break up” with him for now. When you find a guy who can love you back as a girl, then you can be friends with him again, but not until that happens. you must do this for yourself.

dont feel guilty or let him give you the “but you’re my best friend” line. if he cannot give you what you want, then he has no right to say that. you must take care of yourself, and no matter how much it hurts now, you are doing the right thing for yourself and your future relationships, i assure you.
